Enjoy an evening of classical guitar music at its finest as the Del Mar College Music Department welcomes guest performer and renowned Mexican guitarist Dr. Dieter Hennings for a not-to-be-missed concert on Tuesday, April 14th. Currently a Professor of Music at the University of Kentucky and curator of the UK International Guitar Series, Dr. Hennings holds several credits that range from winning first prize in several prestigious competitions, including the 2008 Aaron Brock International Guitar Competition in Toronto, the 2005 Eastman Guitar Concerto Competition, the 2002 Villa de Petrer, Alicante International Young Artists Competition in Spain and the 2001 Portland International Guitar Competition, among others. As an active champion of new music, particularly that of Latin America, he has recently worked with composers Mario Davidovsky, Carlos Sanchez-Gutierrez, Juan Trigos and Ricardo Zohn-Muldoon and has premiered works by several composers. Dr. Hennings’ recent engagements include concerts with Pop singer Natalie Merchant and baroque violinist Monica Huggett as well as appearances at the Mexican Embassy in Rome, Festival SpazioMusica of Cagliari, Conservatorio de las Rosas in Morelia, Mexico, University of Chicago, Festival Internacional de Chihuahua, New York’s Joyce Theater, Julliard’s Paul Hall, and the New England Conservatory. He is a resident artist at the East Coast Composers Ensemble and the Eastman Broad Band Ensemble of which he maintains an active performance schedule.
