Poetry as Remembrance: Voices, Memory & Día de los Muertos
Description
Join us for an exploration of poetry, memory, and Día de los Muertos. The program will feature poet Elizabeth (Liz) Flores, joining virtually via Microsoft Teams to share her poetry, and Claudia Morales, who will moderate a conversation about poetry, remembrance, and the ways we honor the people and experiences that shape our lives.
The program will also include “Bring a Poem, Bring a Memory,” an audience participation activity. Attendees are invited to bring a favorite poem (in Spanish or English), short piece of writing, quotation, or passage connected to a person, meaningful experience, or memory they wish to honor. Participants may share what they brought and briefly explain its personal significance. Sharing is voluntary; attendees are also welcome to participate by listening and reflecting.
Through poetry, conversation, and shared reflection, we will celebrate the power of words to preserve memories, connect generations, and honor the stories that remain with us.
All are welcome. Bring a poem, bring a memory, and join the conversation.
Presented by the Del Mar College Spanish Program in collaboration with Del Mar College Libraries (White Library).
